Building on the joint research activities with Dr Shigetomi at Nagasaki University, and our recent presentations at the Japan Society for Energy and Resources, in March I attended the Japan LCA Conference in Waseda University, Tokyo.
The focus of our joint research presentation here was to address the issue of lifestyle based consumption and it deleterious effect on social equity through the generation of ‘public bads’. I made a presentation entitled “Generational Social Burden Issues due to Household Consumption”, detailing our new indicator, derivation methodology, and expounded on the concept of ‘societal equity’.
Session attendees asked many interesting questions, both about the research background, and specifically regarding our methodology. We look forward to joining the Japan LCA Conference again next year.
